Mezzo-soprano Jill Grove, who made her Company debut in Fantastic Mr. Fox, was a winner of the 2003 ARIA award. This summer, she made her Italian debut as Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera in Genoa. She also made a debut at the Bard Festival performing Mussorgsky’s Nursery and Liszt’s Missa Solemnis. Her 2006-07 season is highlighted by appearances as Cornelia in Giulio and as the Omniscient Mussel in Die Agyptische Helena at the Metropolitan Opera, and orchestral engagements including Messiah with the Toronto Symphony and Brahms’ Viola Songs with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Last season, she performed Preziosilla in La Forza del Destino with San Francisco Opera, Margret in Wozzeck at the Met, and Amneris in Aida at Opera Pacific. Other recent appearances include La Cieca in La Gioconda for her Covent Garden debut, Azucena in Il Trovatore in Houston, Auntie in Peter Grimes in Santa Fe, and Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde with the LA Philharmonic. She recently performed Erda in Das Rheingold and Siegfried and the First Norn in Götterdämmerung with Lyric Opera of Chicago, roles she will perform in LA Opera’s upcoming Ring cycle. |
