Beau Gibson

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, tenor Beau Gibson will make his LA Opera debut as Froh in Das Rheingold. He is currently a second-year member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, and will appear with that company in the 2007-2008 season as the Magistrate in Un Ballo in Maschera, First Armored Man and First Priest in Die Zauberflöte, and Maintop in Billy Budd. In Houston Grand Opera's 2006-2007 season, he sang the Captain in Simon Boccanegra, the Messenger in Aida, and Pasek in The Cunning Little Vixen. He also made an eleventh hour appearance in the title role of Faust, replacing an indisposed colleague. This past summer found him at Wolf Trap Opera singing Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Remendado in Carmen.

He earned his master of music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in 2005, and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of music degree from the University of Kentucky in 2002. Mr. Gibson sang Peter Quint in The Turn of the Screw and Albert in Albert Herring at Rice University. In 2005, he was a Studio Artist with Chautauqua Opera, covering Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and has performed the role of Tamino in Die Zauberflöte at St. Ivo alla Sapienza in Rome. While at the University of Kentucky, he appeared as Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, Daniel Buchanan in Street Scene, and Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors. He has been a member of the Utah Symphony and Opera's Ensemble Apprentice Program, as well as being a featured soloist with the Symphony. He performed the First Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte in March 2006 and participated in San Francisco Opera's Merola Opera Program in summer 2006, including scenes from Idomeneo and La Favorita. Mr. Gibson was a finalist in the 2006 Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers.
