Graham Clark

Tenor Graham Clark makes his Company debut as the Witch in Hansel and Gretel (November/December 2006). He was a principal artist with English National Opera (1978-85) and has also sung with Covent Garden, Opera North and Welsh National Opera in the U.K. His extensive international career includes 16 seasons and over 100 performances at the Bayreuth Festival, where he debuted in 1981, and 14 seasons with the Metropolitan Opera, where he debuted in 1985. He has also sung with more than 40 international opera houses and festivals including the Berlin Staatsoper, Opera National de Paris, Salzburg Festival, San Francisco Opera, La Scala and Lyric Opera of Chicago, among many others. He has received three nominations for “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Opera” Awards (1983, 1986, 1993), including an American Emmy for his performance as Bégearss in the Metropolitan Opera’s telecast of The Ghosts of Versailles. He won the Sir Laurence Olivier Award in 1986 for Mephistopheles in Busoni’s Doktor Faust.  Appearances in 2006 have included the Captain in Wozzeck at the Met and at Covent Garden, Hauk-Sendorf in The Makropulos Case at English National Opera, and the Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxoswith the Teatro Real in Madrid. He will return to LA Opera as Mime in the Company’s upcoming Ring cycle.
