Tenor Arnold Bezuyen started his career at the theaters of Augsburg and Bremen with roles like Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Turriddu in Cavalleria Rusticana, the Italian Singer in Der Rosenkavalier, Cassio in Otello, Ismaele in Nabucco, Alfredo in La Traviata, Alfred in Die Fledermaus and Loge in Das Rheingold. He debuted with the last mentioned part under the baton of James Levine at the Bayreuth Festival in 1998. In the same year, he participated in a CD recording of Das Rheingold with conductor Gustav Kuhn.
He is engaged as soloist at the Bayreuth Festival during all the summers to come. In 2005 he sang roles in Tannhäuser and Lohengrin as well as the Shepherd in Christoph Marthaler's new staging of Tristan und Isolde. He returns to this year's festival as Loge in the new Der Ring des Nibelungen (staged by Tankred Dorst).
Arnold Bezuyen was engaged at the Vienna State Opera for two seasons and is still closely connected to the house through residence and guest contacts. There, he interpreted among other roles Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Dr. Cajus in Falstaff, Alwa in Lulu, and Erik in Der fliegende Holländer.
Further stages of his artistic career brought him among others to Hamburg, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Stuttgart, Amsterdam, Bonn, Tokyo, Naples, London, New York, Kassel, Valencia and Düsseldorf. He debuted with big success as David at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and as Schuisky in Boris Godunov at the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona. In Bari, he could be heard in the role of Jim in Kurt Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, followed by Loge in Riga. His appearance as Matteo in a new production of Arabella at the Deutsche Oper Berlin was another major step in his career.
Arnold Bezuyen has collaborated with celebrated conductors like Andrew Davis, Christoph Eschenbach, Adam Fischer, James Levine, Seji Ozawa, Antonio Pappano and Christian Thielemann.
Further to his operatic repertoire, Mr. Bezuyen has acquired an extensive concert repertoire, ranging from Mozart's and Verdi's Requiem to 21st-century works.
His future plans include Loge in Cologne, in Bayreuth and in Los Angeles, Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Vienna, concert performances of La Damnation de Faust in Madrid, the title role of Faust in Toulouse, Steva in Jenufa at the Hamburg State Opera, and a new production of The Excursions of Mr. Broucek at the Opera of Frankfurt.
